Television personality Dan Bartlett, juggling a fraught home life with his wife and TV co-star Sheila Bartlett, retreats to his quiet Arizona ranch to escape the mounting pressures of fame and public scrutiny. When the body of Mary Little Cloud is found in the back seat of his car, Dan is arrested, thrust into a tense, public inquiry that questions his character as much as his alibi. Freed for lack of evidence, he returns home to a surprising presence: Crazy Hollister, a strikingly alluring and volatile figure who claims a connection to local land troubles.

Crazy reveals that her stepfather, John Ed, owns a vast 50,000-acre property nearby and is entangled in inheritance disputes that could involve murder.
