Bruce Lee, Aarif Rahman, is the focus of a dramatic biopic told from the perspective of his younger brother, Robert Lee. Based on the book Memories of Lee Siu-loong by Bruce’s siblings, the film traces his life as a rebellious adolescent in Hong Kong before he heads to the United States at 18 with only US$102 in his pocket.
Born into an affluent family, Bruce enters the film industry early as a child actor, yet away from home and the studio he embodies a restless, defiant energy. He spends time in street skirmishes, dances with friends, and hangs out with Kong and Unicorn, the latter portrayed by Au-Yeung Jin, a fellow child actor who would later appear in Fist of Fury and The Way of the Dragon. The romance thread colors his youth as he falls for Pearl, only to discover that his buddy Kong also harbors the same feeling, straining their closest friendship. A cha-cha dancing tournament becomes a turning point when Kong reveals his intention to step aside so Bruce can pursue Pearl, fracturing their bond.
Against the wishes of his father, Lee Hoi Chuen Tony Leung Ka Fai, Bruce pursues Wing Chun rather than tai chi, and his first public triumph comes in a tournament where he defeats a boxer, earning attention and a demand for a rematch from his opponent. The underworld soon intrudes when he learns from that opponent that Kong has fallen into drug addiction. Bruce, with Unicorn, infiltrates the drug lord’s den to rescue Kong, but the mission triggers a dangerous chase that tests their courage and loyalty.
The conflict escalates as Bruce and his friends narrowly survive, yet Kong dies heroically while trying to shield them. From there, Bruce becomes a target for Triads and corrupt cops who want to see him jailed, forcing his father to arrange his departure to San Francisco, California, in search of safety and a future that might finally shape the global legend he would become.
Set against a vibrant Hong Kong backdrop and grounded in the real memories recounted by Bruce’s siblings, the film intertwines intimate family dynamics with the rise of a martial arts icon-in-waiting. It paints a portrait of a young man whose formidable talent, stubborn independence, and personal flaws converge on a path that leads him from local streets to the threshold of worldwide fame.
