She survives against the odds, portraying activist and future MP Sonja Davies’ early life. From nursing training at 17, a wartime romance with an American marine killed in WWII, battling tuberculosis and fighting to save Nelson’s railway, she rises, winning a seat on the Nelson Hospital Board in 1956 at age 33, beginning her political career.
