Mitil Koel Mallick is a young woman from Siliguri who travels to Kolkata to chase a dream: to become a radio jockey. Her father supports the move, while her mother is wary, constantly pressing her to settle down and marry. Upon arriving in the city, Mitil moves into a women’s hostel, where she forges a quick bond with a friend named Bibi. Yet the practical side of city life soon rears its head: finding a proper place to live becomes tricky for a single woman, and Mitil must navigate a world that still expects women to abide by traditional norms.

To meet the landlady’s demand for a sense of security, Mitil concocts a plan. She fabricates the story of a forthcoming marriage, telling the landlady that her husband will soon join her. With housing in sight, she then decides she needs a fake husband to present to the world. The situation takes a turn when Mitil and Bibi encounter two men, Avik Jisshu Sengupta and Kanchan Kanchan Mullick, at a bar-restaurant. After a night of talking and drinking, Mitil reveals her scheme to both men. Avik willingly agrees to step into the role of her husband, and a small, ceremony-like façade is staged in front of witnesses to satisfy the landlady’s demands.

As the days pass, Mitil grows fond of her recovery companion, and Avik begins to care for her beyond the initial arrangement. When Mitil falls ill, Avik takes on the role of nurse, quietly helping her regain strength. A mutual, if hesitant, closeness develops, but Mitil remains intent on ending the charade. Complications intensify when Mitil’s parents unexpectedly arrive in the city, unaware of the deception. She explains to them that the landlady is mistaken and that she is indeed married, while the reality of the situation weighs on all of them. At the same time, Mitil learns that her father has suffered a cerebral stroke, adding urgency to the need to resolve the situation.

The pressure to marry in the face of parental concern and the growing distance with Avik culminate on what should be Mitil’s wedding day. Just as the ceremony seems imminent, news arrives that Avik has been involved in an accident. Mitil rushes to the hospital, her heart racing with worry and relief. The truth about the “accident” unfolds: it is a planned ruse orchestrated by Mitil’s father, a twist that refashions the entire dilemma and clears the air between Mitil, Avik, and her family. The film closes on a hopeful note, with Mitil stepping forward into adulthood and independence, the misunderstandings resolved, and a sense of genuine connection finally taking root.

In the end, the story remains a delicate balance of ambition, family pressure, and the desire for personal choice. Mitil’s journey—from a small-town dream to a city-filled test of resilience—highlights how far a person will go to carve out a life on their own terms, while still honoring the ties that bind them to home.
