In 1936, a German professor named Richard Wirth is hosted by the Wollners, a family of German immigrants living on a remote farm in West Virginia. The Wollners believe he is a visiting scholar, but Wirth is really a Nazi occultist who seeks a Viking runestone buried somewhere on their land. As Wirth reveals his intent to use the stone for evil purposes, the family acts quickly to trap him in the cellar and bind him through a ritual that requires frequent human sacrifices. This dark bargain binds Wirth to the Wollners for decades, with the family serving as both captors and reluctant servants who keep him weakened while continuing to profit from his presence.

Fast forward to 2007, when Evan Marshall, a 25-year-old paramedic, is startled by the sudden return of his older brother Victor, who had disappeared years earlier during a camping trip in rural West Virginia. Victor explains that he has escaped his captors, and the brothers decide to exact vengeance by returning to the farm. They confront the Wollners, who warn them about Wirth. Despite the warnings, the brothers press on, driven by a sense of duty and anger. The menace resurfaces when Wirth climbs out of the cellar and resumes his terror, revealing that Victor’s escape had been a carefully laid part of a larger plan—Wirth had anticipated that Victor would come back to free him, and he let him go on purpose to lure them back into danger.

The confrontation escalates into a brutal struggle. The brothers manage to poison and decapitate Wirth, a decisive act that triggers a rapid, eerie aging of the Wollner family, who die off in quick succession. Before the youngest Wollner dies, she warns Evan that Heinrich Himmler, the infamous SS leader, has dispatched eight more Nazi agents to different farms. Evan discovers a map hidden beneath the farm that confirms the existence of other Wirth-like threats scattered across the countryside. Realizing the danger is far from over, Evan resolves to seek out the other sites and put a stop to the spread of this sinister network.

As the map unfolds and the danger moves beyond the one farm, the story broadens into a tense pursuit across rural landscapes, blending elements of occult horror with a chilling tale of legacy, manipulation, and the enduring pull of a dark past. The narrative keeps a steady, restrained pace, letting the atmosphere and the creeping threat build tension while following Evan’s determination to protect others from a danger that refuses to stay buried. The result is a grim, methodical thriller that leans into themes of family ties, vengeance, and the unsettling realization that some evils survive through time, waiting for a moment to reawaken.
