After experiencing intense pain during her first sexual encounter with her boyfriend, Carlos, Ariel seeks advice from her mother, María Elena Duque, who is battling cancer. Despite the pain, her mother encourages her to persevere to meet the expectations of their patriarchal society, though she suggests Ariel visit her childhood physician, Doctora Clemencia.
