Dr. Richard, Ed Quinn, a single parent living in America with his 10-year-old son, Sam Stefan Djordjevic, is invited to a medical conference in Delhi, India, and brings Sam along because he cannot find a trustworthy babysitter. At the conference, Richard presents his findings, but soon discovers Sam is missing. A frantic search follows, drawing in the Delhi Police as well as an American connection: Senior Inspector Vijay Kumar, and the American anti-terrorist policewoman, Joey Lauren Adams, who plays Inspector Julia Hyde, join the investigation to help track the kidnapper’s trail. The news hits hard: Sam has been taken, and the abductor communicates through a mysterious beeper, forcing Richard into a high-stakes game of compliance and consequence.
Richard is told that his cooperation is essential, but he quickly learns that involving the police has consequences. Vijay pulls back his team, leaving Richard to navigate a foreign city where danger lurks around every corner and where the death of a person, even a child, can be treated with shocking casualness. With time running short, the doctor must maneuver through a maze of demands and dead ends, all while the beeper remains his only initial link to Sam. In a crowded marketplace, fate deals another twist when the initial beeper slips from his grasp, and Richard unexpectedly comes into contact with a second device that belongs to Zolo, a notorious drug smuggler portrayed by Harvey Keitel.
To move forward, Richard must first satisfy Zolo’s instructions before he can even think about locating the original device. The pressure intensifies as Vijay keeps a watchful eye on him, suspecting that the kidnapping might be a ploy to smuggle opium worth half a million dollars. As the investigation deepens, Richard becomes increasingly convinced that Sam’s disappearance could involve someone connected to the Delhi Police, a realization that compounds his fear and determination. The story threads suspense through every encounter and misdirection, building toward a finale that tests Richard’s resolve and may cost him his life. A tense chase through a foreign city, a desperate father’s struggle, and a moral labyrinth where trust is scarce and time is a merciless enemy.
