Battle of Memories 2017

Jiang Feng is a writer who undergoes a memory-erasure procedure, hoping to forget painful parts of his past. During the process at the memory center, an unexpected incident causes him to drop his memory-restore-key card, setting off a chain of uneasy consequences. He later delivers divorce papers to his wife, Zhang Daichen, but she refuses to sign until he regains his memories. Even as he wrestles with the fragments of his erased past, the division between memory and reality begins to blur, and a new, troubling awareness starts to take shape.

After the procedure, Feng finds himself seeing murders as if he is living through them, yet the vision places him on the side of the killer rather than the victim. Astonishingly, the memories reveal crimes that he cannot ignore, and when he brings this to the attention of the police, he is met with skepticism. Nevertheless, officer Shen Hanqiang [duan-yihong] and a wary colleague, [Lei Zi], slowly come to believe that Feng’s memories might actually reflect real events. The more Feng describes the crime scenes—the angles, the timing, the people involved—the stronger the link between his narration and the physical evidence becomes. The police begin treating his experiences as potential clues rather than delusions, and the investigation tightens around the possibility that the killer could be someone who shares Feng’s own memories.

As the truth edges closer, Feng realizes the killer may be someone intimately connected to the case who could slip away if he is captured too late. He attempts to stage an escape to protect his wife from becoming a target, but the plan backfires, and his attempt to break free only disturbs the fragile balance around Zhang Daichen. At the police station, Zhang Daichen encounters medical officer Chen Shanshan [yang-zishan], forging a fragile, yet hopeful, connection that hints at possible support or intervention as the case unfolds. The investigation continues to hinge on the unsettling possibility that Feng’s mind holds the key to who the killer is—and what motive drives the violence.

In a startling reversal, it is revealed that the actual killer is Shen Hanqiang [duan-yihong], a fellow officer who has been using another officer, Chan, to cover his tracks. Shen’s ruthlessness becomes clear as he eliminates Chan to keep his secret hidden, and when he turns his attention toward Feng, the confrontation turns dangerous. Daichen unexpectedly intervenes, stepping between Shen and Feng in a moment that could determine their lives. Shen, momentarily paralyzed by memories flickering through Feng’s mind, cannot bring himself to shoot Daichen, revealing a medicalized, almost confessional link between memory and action.

Lei Zi arrives at the scene just in time to arrest Shen, bringing the case into a legal closure that Feng and Zhang Daichen desperately crave. With the implications of Feng’s memories laid bare, the couple confronts the emotional aftermath of fear, doubt, and danger, choosing to reconcile and face the future together. The story closes on a note of cautious hope, underscored by the persistence of memory and the fragile ties that bind a family when truth finally comes to light.
