Pandiyan is introduced as a young, innocent man whose life feels empty and pointless. In a twist of fate, he tries to end his own life, only to have a crafty con artist named Kabali intervene and convince him to postpone his plan for a month. To secure his scheme, Kabali enlists a sly accomplice, Marudhu, who serves as a replica of Pandiyan, creating a dangerous game built around deception and insurance money. The plan is simple in its cold logic: take out an insurance policy on Pandiyan’s name, wait for the scheduled moment, and reap the payoff once Pandiyan supposedly follows through on his decision. Yet, even as the web of manipulation tightens, something unexpected begins to change the course of the plot.

Pandiyan’s stubborn humanity surfaces when he meets Geetha, and a genuine affection grows between them. Her grateful, affluent father takes Pandiyan into his family, adopting him as his son and dramatically shifting Pandiyan’s social standing. The stakes grow even darker when Kabali finally captures Pandiyan and forcibly hurls him into the sea, a brutal twist that sets the stage for a whirlwind of confusion and revenge.

Complicating matters further is Pandiyan’s elder brother, Shankar, who lives with a wife whose greed threatens to tear the family apart. News of Pandiyan’s supposed death spurs Shankar’s wife to hatch a bold plan: she will stage Shankar’s death as a fake, and then have Shankar impersonate Pandiyan, hoping to access the newly acquired wealth. With both Shankar and Marudhu assuming the identity of the escaped Pandiyan, the household is plunged into a tangle of doubles and deceptions that leaves everyone guessing who is who. The real Pandiyan, rescued by fishermen after his sea ordeal, ultimately joins the masquerade, and chaos erupts as the truth begins to surface.

In the climactic moments, misidentifications reach their peak when Kabali shoots Marudhu, believing him to be Pandiyan, only to turn the gun on himself out of overwhelming guilt.
