Nanjo Mikisaburo, a young samurai, strives to restore his fallen family's former honor. Despite scorn from senior samurai, he immerses himself in the warrior’s path, mastering both literary and martial disciplines. His mentor Kurahashi Jupeita’s daughter Misao, moved by his pride, offers sympathy and encouragement, which awakens a deep love in Mikisaburo.
