Neela is in police custody, accused of a murder, and she initially confesses, convinced of her guilt. When renowned lawyer Rajeshwar takes her case, he agrees to defend her and begins by accepting her confession, but as he digs deeper into the details and the surrounding circumstances, he grows increasingly unsure about her culpability. The question that drives the narrative becomes clear: what could have placed Neela at the scene of this heinous crime?
The story gradually uncovers a carefully laid plan orchestrated by Neela’s employer, Beni Prasad, who aims to seize her property. To execute his scheme, he recruits Ranjan, Neela’s co-actor, to pretend to be in love with her and to sign a will that would ruin her financial future. On the night when Ranjan brings the papers for signature, he hesitates and contemplates coming clean about the truth. Before he can reveal anything, Neela, gripping a gun, holds him in place, and the moment of truth is cut short by a shot. Neela believes she has killed him, yet the real killer is Beni Prasad, who had been listening in and pulls the trigger.
With the courtroom approaching its final act, Rajeshwar decides to reveal the entire conspiracy. He disguises himself and steps into the courtroom to expose Beni Prasad, asserting the truth in front of the heavy audience of witnesses. He is aided by C.I. Dholakia, and a peculiar witness — Kalu, a street beggar who pretends to be blind — lends credibility to the dramatic revelations. The tension in the court reaches a fever pitch as the connections between Neela, Ranjan, and Beni Prasad come into sharper focus.
The climax unfolds in a way that sharpens the emotional stakes: Rajeshwar confronts the entangled charges and the deception that led to the murder, while the truth about who fired the shot finally emerges. In a moment of cinematic revelation, Neela’s fate rides on the realization that love and loyalty may have been manipulated by those who sought to profit from her misery. The film then pivots to a hopeful ending, as Neela emerges from the back of the car and the couple’s love is affirmed, even as the documentary-style courtroom drama lingers in memory.
The final tableau has Rajeshwar and Neela driving away together, their bond solidified, as the famous song “Jo Ijaazat Ho To Ek Baat” swells in the background, signaling a new beginning after a web of lies and a fight for justice. Across its winding narrative, the movie blends courtroom tension, romantic intrigue, and a calm insistence on truth, all anchored by the performances of its leads and the supporting turn by the CID, whose presence helps tilt the balance toward a just resolution.
