The Deathgames is an illegal web-show featuring a brutal, modern-day gladiator arena where combatants fight to the death. David Lord, a fireman and paramedic, gets into a terrible car accident with his pregnant girlfriend Lori Lord, who does not survive the crash. Grief-stricken, he drowns his sorrows at a local bar, while a mysterious woman, Milla, watches him from afar. After witnessing him easily subdue the bar’s bouncer, Milla seduces him before incapacitating him and allowing him to be kidnapped.
Milla is a recruiter for The Deathgames, which is run by the confident Logan. Logan explains the grim contract: David can win his freedom after ten fights, provided the tenth opponent is Logan’s top henchman, Kaden.
For the penultimate fight, Kaden arranges the release of Brutus Jackson, a South African serial killer, which prompts Logan to fear David’s growing prowess. David defeats Brutus, and Logan grows distressed. In response, a doctor injects him with a drug meant to slow him down and make him easier prey for Kaden.
As the fights unfold, flashbacks reveal a twist: the man known as David Lord is actually an undercover government agent who was sent to infiltrate The Deathgames. It is also revealed that Milla secretly swapped Logan’s drug with a simple saline solution. A group of American soldiers storm the facility, and in a moment of fury after killing Kaden, David hunts down Logan and corners him in a stockroom. Just as David is about to strike the deadly blow, the soldiers arrive, snapping him back to reality and interrupting the bid for vengeance. Logan escapes.
David’s superior, Agent McCarty, consoles the shaken operative, reminding him of the moral weight of his actions and assuring him that Logan will be caught. Milla apologizes and is escorted away, while McCarty reassures David that she is in good hands.
