Spoilers ahead
Jude, a college-educated, middle-class young man, and his girlfriend Bobbie drift somewhere between homelessness and fantasy, living life on the edge of conventional life and the harsh realities that accompany heroin addiction. They struggle with each other’s dependencies, often enabling one another as they chase their next fix, spending most of their days plotting ways to score drugs. Their nights stretch across a dilapidated car or shabby Chicago motel rooms, and their survival depends on small-time thefts and scams that keep them one step ahead of their escalating desperation. The world around them feels both intimate and unreal, a space where hopes flicker and then fade in the wake of their addictions.
