Kishanlal, a weary chauffeur, is released from jail on 15 August 1955 after serving a sentence for the fatal hit-and-run caused by his employer, the crime lord Robert. Despite Robert’s promises, Kishanlal returns home to find his wife Bharati battling TB and their three sons starving. Enraged and humiliated, Kishanlal confronts Robert, only to be abused and disowned. In a bold turn, he seizes a car loaded with smuggled gold bullion and rips away from Robert’s henchmen, becoming the target of pursuit.

Arriving back at his home, Kishanlal discovers Bharati has vanished; a suicide note reveals her despair and shame. He takes his sons with him and guides them to the foot of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Borivali National Park, leaving the eldest in charge before driving away to mislead Robert’s goons. A high-octane car crash leads the police and Robert’s men to believe Kishanlal and his children are dead, setting off a cascade of fates.

The three siblings are scattered by the storm of events. Amar, the eldest, gives chase after his father and is knocked down by Robert’s goons, only to be taken in by Hindu police Superintendent Khanna. Anthony heads off to find food for his baby brother; meanwhile, Raju is found and raised by a kind Muslim tailor, Darji Ilahabadi. When a storm catches Anthony outside a nearby Catholic church, the parish priest, Father Gonsalves, discovers him and Bharati’s suicide note and adopts him. Each boy grows up under the protection and influences of a different faith—Hindu, Islam, and Christianity—shaping their identities and loyalties.

Elsewhere, Bharati is struck by misfortune during the storm and blinded by a falling tree branch, a tragic sign of her guilt in leaving her sons. She is rescued and brought home by Mr. Ilahabadi, but cannot see Raju beside him; at home she is told that her family is dead. Kishanlal escapes the wreck and uncovers Robert’s gold, only to return to an empty park and a life that is now hollow to him.

Twenty-two years pass. Bharati, now a flower seller, is hit by a vehicle near a church and rushed to a private hospital by Anthony Jayasurya who controls the neighborhood’s liquor trade. Raju, who has grown into Akbar, is a popular Qawwali singer, while Amar has become a police inspector. All three men donate blood to save Bharati’s life, unknowingly connected by bloodlines that tie them to a shared past. Amar later tracks highway robbers and meets Lakshmi, who is compelled by her abusive stepmother and stepbrother Ranjeet to act as bait to shield her grandmother. Amar helps gather evidence and shelters Lakshmi and her grandmother.

With Robert’s gold financing his empire, Kishanlal becomes a formidable crime lord in his own right. He kidnaps Robert’s infant daughter Jenny and raises her as his own—his “niece”—sending her abroad for schooling, while quietly dismantling Robert’s organization and forcing the return of his daughter’s innocence. In the chaos of a raid on a smuggling operation, Robert shoots Superintendent Khanna, injuring him, and retrieves a crate of Kishanlal’s gold to cement his power. He resolves to recapture Jenny and eliminate Kishanlal, hiring Ranjeet to assist.

Jenny returns from abroad, and Anthony falls hard for her during Easter Sunday services. Bharati, held hostage by Robert, suffers a minor head injury but her sight is miraculously restored during a festival hosted by Akbar in honor of Sai Baba of Shirdi. She also recognizes Akbar as Raju from a childhood photo with Ilahabadi, while Akbar realizes Bharati is the blind woman he once drove home.

Akbar rescues Salma and Taiyyab Ali from a house fire set by Taiyyab’s former mistress, and Taiyyab grants permission for Akbar and Salma’s marriage. This revelation ties Akbar and Amar as brothers, with Kishanlal and Bharati revealed as their parents. The plot thickens when Kishanlal is double-crossed by Jenny’s bodyguard Zebisco, who delivers her to Robert in exchange for marriage. Father Gonsalves and Lakshmi witness the kidnapping, but Lakshmi is taken as well, and Robert murders Father Gonsalves—leaving Kishanlal’s Kali talisman as a clue. Anthony uncovers the truth that Kishanlal and Bharati are his parents, and that Amar and Akbar are his brothers.

The brothers mount a daring infiltration of Robert’s mansion. Akbar, wary of strangers seeking Jenny’s wedding dress, disguises himself as an elderly, dithering tailor and accompanies them to make last-minute alterations. He sends a note to his foster father, which Salma reads, and she joins him as his “assistant/wife” to help the escape. Amar and Anthony masquerade as a one-man band and a Catholic priest to reach Jenny and Zebisco, and the siblings rejoice at their reunion as they pursue Robert, Zebisco, Ranjeet, and the remaining henchmen.

Bharati, relieved that Kishanlal remains alive, is torn about the prospect of his imprisonment, but he reassures her that their restored family is what truly matters. Superintendent Khanna, recovered from his injuries, briefly allows Kishanlal to embrace his sons one last time before the family embarks toward a hopeful future, driving into the sunset together along a road toward redemption and reconciliation.
