
A bold, unconventional film follows farmer Jabez Stone, who, facing foreclosure, bargains his soul to the devil Mr. Scratch, granted seven years of prosperity. In that time Jabez pays his debts, aids neighboring farms and becomes a staunch supporter of Senator Daniel Webster. When the contract ends, he turns to Webster to defend him in a dramatic trial for his soul.
