As Earth succumbs to the relentless attack of the “Heavies” in 2021, differing national responses fail to establish a coherent defense against the extraterrestrial menace. The United Nations collapses, giving way to the United Space Defense Force (USDF), which succeeds in pushing back the alien forces, albeit at the steep price of leaving thousands of its troops stranded on the surface.
