Karthik, a software engineer from Hyderabad, carries a long-standing resentment toward his father Burayya because of their strained relationship and ongoing financial hardship. Burayya, often unwell and financially dependent, is blamed by Karthik for blocking his chance at a college seat in the past, a decision that forced him to leave home and drift away from his childhood friends Subbu and Hari, who still care for him.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Karthik returns to his village to work remotely and gradually reconnects with Subbu and Hari, though the distance with Burayya remains.
In the village, he falls for Pallavi, a college student and the daughter of Durga, a local politician. Pallavi, who comes from a different caste, initially rejects Subbu’s long-held, one-sided love and begins a relationship with Karthik, prompting Subbu to give his blessing. However, fearing her father’s disapproval because of caste differences, Pallavi agrees to an arranged marriage and asks Karthik to stay friends and respect her decision. Karthik is puzzled by her actions, especially when she invites him to help with her wedding preparations.
Determined to help the couple, Subbu and Hari hatch a plan to remove the caste obstacle by killing Durga; their attempts are thwarted in a series of comic missteps, and Pallavi learns of their scheme. Karthik confronts Pallavi and discovers that she is battling depression over the situation, feeling that their love may not bridge the caste divide. Yet she maintains a cheerful front to avoid suspicion and to spend more time with him. Their moment is interrupted when Pallavi’s uncle Bose catches them together. Karthik pleads with Bose not to expose them publicly, promising to honor Pallavi’s choice and stay away.
On the wedding day, Karthik vents to Burayya, blaming him for the family’s financial troubles and wishing they were as wealthy as Durga in order to have a shot at Pallavi. In a heartfelt moment, Burayya goes to Durga to seek his approval, explaining that this might be his last chance to do something meaningful for his son. Durga fully supports Karthik and Pallavi’s marriage and cancels the wedding, announcing that they will marry at a later date.
Later, the trio learns from an elderly man that Durga and Burayya were once close friends, and that Burayya had secretly helped him during a financial crisis, refusing repayment and choosing to preserve their friendship over caste differences. Burayya’s selflessness, including his decision not to reclaim the money Durga used to secure Karthik’s college seat, helps Karthik understand his father’s actions. In the end, Karthik gains a renewed respect for Burayya, Subbu, and Hari, and the story closes with the joyous union of Karthik and Pallavi among their families.
