One day, just as she is preparing to attend an office party hosted by her boss, Ammi arrives at her doorstep with startling news. Jagdish had died fifteen days earlier, and had chosen not to tell Savi. His will leaves the entire property to Savi, but with one condition: Ammi must be allowed to live with her as her mother. Savi’s initial anger gives way to a reluctant acceptance, and she invites Ammi to stay.
