Parasuram is the stern patriarch of a bustling, close-knit family that centers around two sons, Sriram and Raghuram. While the elder son [Raghuram] is married to the kind-hearted Rajeswari, their home also holds a mischievous little boy named Ajay. The younger son, [Sriram], lives life with a carefree frolic that his father sharply disapproves of, often calling him a useless fellow. Inside the household, [Rajeswari] brings warmth beyond her duties as wife and mother, but she bears an ailed heart that the family constantly tries to shield with cheerful days.

Parasuram’s looming worry is his daughter Gayatri, whose marriage prospects keep faltering because of her handicaps. The tension of a wedding that might never be seems to hang over the household, coloring conversations and decisions with a mix of hope and fear. At a function, [Sriram] meets Janaki, the daughter of a cook named Rama Rao, and an instant attraction forms between them. The romance develops in the light of day, yet it gets complicated when the family tries to manage appearances and the truth about Rama Rao’s profession remains hidden. As this secret rises to the surface, Parasuram grows furious, and Rama Rao withdraws from the picture, leaving everyone to pick up the pieces.

Amid this, [Sriram] begins to navigate another thread of the family’s affairs: his elder brother [Raghuram] carries on secret telephonic conversations with a woman, a detail that prompts [Sriram] to investigate. He eventually discovers [Raghuram] with his former lover, a woman named Geeta, and learns that Geeta is a dying patient who has returned after years to spend her last days with him. This revelation leads to a gradual redefinition of loyalties and affection within the family, and [Sriram] finds a warm bond forming with Geeta. He pleads for discretion, recognizing that Rajeswari’s feelings could be hurt by such a revelation, even as he respects the brotherly bond that protects Raghuram.

In parallel, Rama Rao falls into debt, and [Sriram] steps in to safeguard him by helping him start a new business venture. Through this support, [Sriram] comes to understand Rama Rao’s true virtue and sense of responsibility, which deepens the evolving respect between the two households. The bond between the brothers grows more intricate as Sriram also looks after Geeta, taking her to the hospital when her condition worsens. This act is misread by Parasuram and Janaki, who misunderstand his intentions, and Geeta ultimately dies in [Raghuram]’s lap, an ending twist intended to preserve his brother’s integrity and to shield his sister-in-law from further scandal.

Guilt and a sense of alienation fall over [Sriram], and the family begins to turn away from him. A rift opens between him and Janaki, prompting her to leave the town. Yet [Raghuram] acts quickly to bring her back just before [Gayatri]’s wedding is scheduled to take place. A tragedy then strikes when the train on which [Raghuram] is traveling crashes, and [Sriram] receives the devastating news of his brother’s death. He bears the weight of this loss in quiet sorrow, choosing to remain silent until the time comes to support his sister-in-law and the wedding’s continuation.

Parasuram’s resolve is tested as he urges to pause the wedding until [Raghuram] can arrive. In a moment of candor, [Sriram] reveals the truth that has haunted the family and urges his father to go ahead with the ceremony. The revelation brings about a healing moment: [Rajeswari] appears to be on the verge of collapse, but [Raghuram] returns in time with [Janaki] by his side, and together they confront the hidden truths with courage. In the end, Parasuram recognizes [Sriram]’s true worth, and the family comes together in a heartfelt embrace. The film closes on a hopeful note with the marriage of [Sriram] and [Janaki], marking a reconciliation and a renewal of faith within the family.
