A Hill in Korea 1956

During the Korean War in 1951, a small force of British soldiers fights to avoid being cut off as the Chinese army presses forward. The film centers on the National Servicemen who, as the old saying goes, are > old enough to fight, but too young to vote.

The patrol is led by George Baker as Lt. Butler and includes Harry Andrews as Sgt. Payne, Stanley Baker as Cpl. Ryker, and Ronald Lewis as Pvt. Wyatt. Early on, tragedy strikes when a bomb planted in a small shack kills one of their own, forcing Butler to pull the group back toward their lines. Out on the open plain, they confront a large force of Chinese troops advancing directly toward them, and Butler, with Payne and the others, must improvise a retreat while holding the line. After fending off two attacks, Butler discovers Robert Shaw as LCpl. Hodge is dead, a stark reminder of how thin their odds remain as the noose tightens around the scattered units.

The surviving soldiers press on through a village and up a winding path toward an isolated temple perched on a hill, with a steep cliff rising behind it. Along the way, Pvt. Wyatt discards the radio, severing communications just as the hook of fate tightens around them. They stumble into an enemy patrol on the path, but manage to ambush the Chinese unit and press onward toward the temple, increasingly aware that their location is now known to the enemy. Butler must keep his men together and weather wave after wave of attacks, using grit and coordination to hold the line as the hilltop sanctuary looms above the treacherous terrain.
