Eve Morgan, Kristin Davis, is a work-focused woman who has pushed aside most other aspects of life to build a successful career. When a fall near Christmas claims her life, she is greeted by Pearl, Shirley MacLaine, an angel who explains that Eve has been chosen to become a Christmas angel and help Max, Eric McCormack, a musician working as a fry cook who has been caring for his niece after the death of her parents.
Max, a kind and talented artist, is startled to discover his life is at the center of this celestial mission. Eve uses her new perspective to nudge him toward an audition for a part he recently missed, and as they spend time together she begins to fall for him. But Pearl intervenes to reveal that Eve’s tenure as a celestial helper is temporary; Eve has been in a coma since the fall, and the choice to become an angel was also a way to save her own life and give Eve a chance to help others.
Waking up with no memory of her celestial visit, Eve finds that the people she touched remember only the influence she had, not her name. This realization pushes her to reengage with her own life and to seek a deeper connection with her brother Tony and his family. She also encounters Max again, this time under circumstances that reflect the growth she has undergone.
As their bond deepens, Pearl is shown watching them with Max’s sister, Sally, who reveals that those around them arranged this to give Max a chance at happiness. The moment becomes a delicate balance of second chances, burgeoning affection, and the quiet hope that love can emerge again even after loss.
Throughout the story, the Christmas backdrop frames a gentle meditation on ambition, forgiveness, and the power of small, meaningful acts to reshape a life. Eve’s transformation from a career-first individual to someone who values family, connection, and empathy unfolds with a hopeful cadence, while Max finds new purpose and courage to pursue his dreams—and perhaps a future with Eve under circumstances neither anticipated nor fully understood.
