Sailor O’Connor is a retired Irish boxer whose 63 fights have earned him a hard-won reputation for resilience, never having been knocked down. His mother, Rose O’Connor, is dying of cancer, and doctors give her about six months to live, setting the stage for one final journey together. To make that trip possible, he strikes a deal with Fast Eddie, a local promoter, securing a loser’s purse of $4,000 that could finance the voyage.
