A Country Christmas 2013

On the night before Christmas in Hope, Arizona, fifth-grader Zach Logan, Benjamin Stockham, and his sister Miley Logan, Caitlin Carmichael, are eagerly awaiting the magic of the season at their family’s Logan Lazy L Ranch. Their mother, Renae Logan, Joey Lauren Adams, does her best to keep the home bright as a strange political storm gathers: Senator Max Schmucker, Kevin Pollak, aims to outlaw belief in Santa Claus, and the school even removes a Santa poster from the wall. The town’s mood shifts between festive cheer and wary hesitation, and Miley clings to the old belief that makes Christmas feel real.

Late one night, a flicker of light in the barn reveals Santa Claus, Abraham Benrubi, and his sharp-toothed elf Elliot, Mikey Post. They’ve been touring to decide who is naughty or nice, but a portal glitch stranded Santa far from the North Pole. He discovers that his magic is fading because people have stopped believing, and he can’t simply appear to everyone due to the rules that govern his appearances. Elliot helps guard the secret as they shift in and out of invisibility when their powers work—leaving Zach and Miley to shoulder the responsibility of keeping Santa hidden while the danger of discovery grows, especially with the animals tampering with the reindeer feed.

Meanwhile, their mother’s doctor appointment casts a pall over the household, adding gravity to the kids’ mission. The siblings hatch a plan to persuade Schmucker to debate the existence of Santa. Miley films a challenge to the senator and the two kids skip school to sneak the clip to a local TV station. Overnight, the town buzzes, and Zach and Miley become local celebrities as they press for a public conversation about Santa’s truth. The stakes rise as they juggle secrecy with the pressure of a frightened Santa wanting to complete his rounds and a world that might lose him forever.
