211 Reviews & Ratings
Critics gave 211 4% on Rotten Tomatoes and 21 on Metacritic, and IMDb users rate it 4.4/10. Our Echo Score gives it 21/100, strongest in art & craft (25) and weakest in rewatch factor (15).
211 Echo Score Breakdown
In broad terms, 211 struggles to coalesce its disparate elements into a coherent whole. Critics and audiences alike highlight an overstuffed narrative, underdeveloped characters, and uneven pacing that undermines tension. Directional choices feature flashy moments yet lack sustained focus. Similarly, sound design and visual flair surface intermittently but fail to compensate for lapses in storytelling and emotional engagement. The net impression is a thriller that rarely satisfies and offers little enduring appeal.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 25
In terms of art and craft, the direction displays intermittent stylistic ambition but often feels pedestrian and unfocused. Cinematography yields occasional striking compositions praised by some viewers, yet editing choices contribute to a cluttered rhythm. Production design meets genre expectations without notable flair. Overall, the film’s visual and technical assembly lacks consistent originality or polish.
- Character & Emotion 20
When it comes to character and emotion, performances tend toward the flat and unconvincing. Nicolas Cage’s underplayed approach is overshadowed by supporting roles described as bland, leading to minimal emotional resonance. Efforts to flesh out backstories fall short, and chemistry among cast members remains underdeveloped. In sum, the movie provides little depth to foster meaningful audience connection.
- Story & Flow 18
In terms of story and flow, the plot suffers from overcrowding and predictable clichés. Numerous subplots compete for attention, resulting in jarring pacing and moments of confusion. Originality is scarce, with action set pieces dominating until they become monotonous. Attempts at suspense and intrigue are undermined by contrived developments. The overall narrative feels uneven and uninspired.
- Sensory Experience 25
When considering the sensory experience, visual style offers fleeting highlights through bold shot compositions, yet sound quality frequently falters with muddled audio mixing. The score and soundtrack blend into the background without distinctive thematic cues. Sound design in action sequences is loud but lacks dynamic clarity. Ultimately, sensory elements are inconsistent and seldom elevate the viewing experience.
- Rewatch Factor 15
In terms of rewatch factor, the film provides minimal incentive for repeat viewings. Viewers rarely recall memorable set pieces or character moments worth revisiting. The densely packed plot offers scant surprises upon a second pass, and unresolved story threads diminish long-term interest. Occasional action sequences momentarily entertain but lack the depth needed to sustain lasting appeal.
