Young lawyer Konrad von Seidlitz Kai Wiesinger is celebrating his engagement to Cornelia, Sylvia Leifheit, the daughter of justice minister Friedemann Volkerts. To give his career a publicity boost, he volunteers for a clever gambit: he refuses to pay parking fines for two years and insists on being sentenced to two weeks behind bars as a stunt to prove his dedication to the system he loves to study. Inside the jail, he carries himself with an air of certainty, convinced that his legal knowledge will shield him from real consequences and from the rougher edges of prison life. He quickly makes a handful of enemies, those who see through the swagger and the clever talk.
Soon a cruel turn of events uncovers the fragility of Seidlitz’s bravado. Just before his planned release, a search reveals two hundred grams of cocaine in his cell, a clue that spirals into a devastating miscalculation. Rather than walking free after two weeks, Seidlitz faces a grim sentence: two years without parole for drug trafficking, a punishment engineered by a vengeful plot within his own law firm. The mastermind is Axel Häring, Seidlitz’s former partner, who is entwined in a dangerous affair with Seidlitz’s fiancée, and who weaponizes the worst possible charge to bring him down. Axel Häring is a name that will loom large over this ordeal.
Now confronted with the brutal reality of prison life, Seidlitz endures humiliation and a reputational wreck that seems nearly irreparable. Yet the harsh environment also forces a recalibration of his approach to power, loyalty, and survival behind bars. He forges a wary but genuine alliance with Viktor Czernetzky, Michael Mendl, whose experience and streetwise instincts become essential as Seidlitz navigates the labyrinth of prison politics. This bond helps him begin to see through the conspiracy against him and to lay the groundwork for restoring his standing, both inside the walls and in the wider fight against Häring.
An escape becomes a turning point in the story, achieved with the help of the prison doctor and others who believe in Seidlitz’s cause. Yet escape is only a temporary reprieve; he returns voluntarily to rally his fellow inmates and marshal support for a courtroom confrontation that could overturn the trap laid by Häring. The showdown in court is brutal and decisive: Häring is sentenced to five years, a verdict that should liberate Seidlitz, yet brings no easy peace. The nightmare seems over, but the web of connections to the criminal underworld—the same ties that helped Häring maneuver—draw Seidlitz back into danger.
With fate tightening its grip, Seidlitz finds himself pressed into a hopeless life-and-death dilemma. To save his friend Czernetzky, he makes an impossibly hard choice that carries a terrible cost: murder. What began as a calculated gambit to prove himself evolves into a crucible that tests every fiber of Seidlitz’s character, leaving him forever changed as the consequences of his decisions ripple through the lives of those he loves and those he swore to protect.
