Celebrating the birthday of Russian film music legend Eduard Artemiev, this concert showcases the extraordinary partnership that began in 1974 with “At Home Among Strangers” and blossomed into more than 50 years of collaboration. Artemiev’s sweeping compositions have defined iconic Mikhalkov films such as *Oblomov*, *Burnt by the Sun*, *Slave of Love*, *Urga – Territory of Love*, *The Barber of Siberia*, and *12*, elevating each narrative to a transcendent experience that still resonates today. The program delights with familiar melodies—“Where Are You, Dream” from *Slave of Love* and the unforgettable theme behind the global hit “Hang Glider”—as well as rare gems, including the almost-unperformed “The Murder of Potocki,” originally intended for the end of *Slave of Love*. According to Mikhalkov, “Everything that Artemiev touches becomes a great work,” while Artemiev feels their partnership is almost familial. Featuring the State Academic Grand Choir “Masters of Choral Singing” under Artistic Director Lev Kontorovich, the State Academic Grand Symphony Orchestra named after P.I. Tchaikovsky led by Artistic Director Vladimir Fedoseev, and Soloists Ekaterina Artemyeva (soprano) and Andrey Lefler (tenor), the night is conducted by Principal Conductor Arsenty Tkachenkо.
