John Wick Trilogy Finds New Streaming Home on HBO Max

John Wick Trilogy Finds New Streaming Home on HBO Max

A major streaming shift is making it easier for audiences to revisit the John Wick universe. The first three films in the Keanu Reeves-led franchise—John Wick (2014), John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum—have landed on HBO Max. However, completing the saga requires a separate subscription, as the recent entries, John Wick: Chapter 4 and the spin-off Ballerina, are currently streaming exclusively on Starz.

The Franchise’s Streaming Distribution

The separation of streaming rights means fans must use two platforms to watch all the mainline films. This is a common occurrence in the industry as licensing deals expire and are renewed with different services.

  • Available on HBO Max: John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum
  • Available on Starz: John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina

Box Office and Critical Success

The John Wick series is renowned for its high-octane action sequences and the dedication of its star, Keanu Reeves, and director Chad Stahelski. The franchise has seen consistent critical and commercial success.

  • John Wick (2014): Grossed $86 million worldwide against a $20 million budget, holding an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
  • John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017): Increased its box office to $174 million and maintained a high critical score of 89%.
  • John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum (2019): Became the highest-grossing film in the trilogy at that point, earning $328 million with an 89% rating.
  • John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023): Achieved the peak of the series with a 94% Rotten Tomatoes score and a worldwide gross of $447 million.

Spin-Off Performance

Not every extension of the franchise has met with the same acclaim. The Peacock original series The Continental received a more mixed response, with a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The 2025 film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, also underperformed relative to the main series, earning $137 million worldwide and a 75% critical score.
