What's After the Movie
Yui Ishikawa (石川 由依, born May 30, 1989 in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan) is a multifaceted Japanese entertainer best known for her work as an actress and voice actress in both stage productions and anime. She began her artistic journey at the age of six when she joined the Himawari Theatre Group in Osaka, where she honed skills in classical ballet, jazz, and tap dance while balancing school commitments. Over the next two decades she remained a core member of the troupe, appearing annually in performances and eventually transitioning to musical theater when she moved to Tokyo. In 2005 she signed with the Sunaoka Office of the Himawari Theatre Group, and her television anime debut came in 2007 with the role of Dianeira in Heroic Age. Ishikawa’s breakthrough arrived with iconic roles such as Mikasa Ackerman in Attack on Titan and the titular Violet Evergarden, performances that earned her the Best Supporting Actress prize at the 8th Seiyu Awards (2014) and the Best Actress in a Leading Role at the 15th Seiyu Awards (2021). She has also voiced memorable characters including China Kousaka in Gundam Build Fighters, Sayuri Haruno in Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie, Hinaki Shinjo in Aikatsu!, and YoRHa No.2 Type B (2B) in the acclaimed video game Nier: Automata. Beyond voice work, Ishikawa is an accomplished singer, launching solo music‑reading drama projects under the title UTA‑KATA in 2019 and 2022, and she frequently appears at international anime conventions such as Sakura‑Con, Otakuthon, Japan Expo, and the Madman Anime Festival. In May 2021 she publicly announced her marriage, and in May 2025 she welcomed her first child, marking a new personal chapter while continuing to be represented by mitt management. Her career, spanning from 2002 to the present, exemplifies dedication to performance art and a lasting impact on contemporary Japanese pop culture.
