Walter Young (October 25, 1980 – September 9, 2015) was an American professional baseball outfielder best known for his brief but memorable tenure with the Baltimore Orioles during the 2005 Major League Baseball season. Born in Seattle, Washington, Young displayed athletic promise early, excelling in baseball throughout his high school years at Seattle's Garfield High School before earning a scholarship to play at Washington State University, where his combination of speed and defensive range attracted the attention of major league scouts. The Orioles selected him in the fourth round of the 2002 MLB Draft, and he spent the next several years honing his craft in the minor leagues, posting solid batting averages and stealing bases for teams such as the Delmarva Shorebirds and the Bowie Baysox.
