Vincent Franklin

Vincent Warren Franklin (born 3 November 1966) is an English actor whose career has been marked by a remarkable blend of comedic timing and dramatic depth. Born in Haworth, West Riding of Yorkshire, he spent his early childhood amid the rugged moorlands before his family moved to Kilnsea in the East Riding, and later returned to Bradford at age eleven. Educated at Bradford Grammar School, Franklin pursued formal training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School from 1988 to 1990, where he honed the craft that would launch him into the professional world in 1995. His early years on stage and television quickly showcased his versatility, allowing him to transition seamlessly between sitcoms, period pieces, and intense dramas, a range that would define his reputation in British entertainment. Since his debut, Franklin has become a familiar face on both the small and big screens, delivering memorable performances in a string of acclaimed productions. He appeared in Mike Leigh’s Topsy‑Turvy (1999), Vera Drake (2004) and Mr Turner (2014), each role cementing his status as a reliable character actor. Television audiences recognize him from iconic series such as The Office (as Rowan the trainer), The Thick Of It (as Stewart Pearson), Twenty Twelve (as Nick Jowett), and the BBC thriller Bodyguard (as Mike Travis). His portrayal of Christopher Drawlight in Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2015) and DSI Andy Shepherd in Happy Valley further exemplify his ability to embody complex, often morally ambiguous characters. Beyond acting, Franklin co‑founded the communications consultancy Quietroom, reflecting his entrepreneurial spirit.
