Charles Curtis "Tuc" Watkins III, better known by his stage name Tuc Watkins, was born on September 2, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas, U.S. He grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Parkway West High School in 1985 before heading to Indiana University Bloomington where he earned a Bachelor of Science in communications, supplementing his studies with a triple minor in theatre, psychology, and French. His early fascination with performance was nurtured by school productions and local theater, and a younger sister, Courtney, shared his creative environment. After college, Watkins relocated to Los Angeles, launching a prolific television career in the early 1990s with guest spots on popular shows such as Baywatch, Get a Life, and Melrose Place. His breakout role arrived in 1994 when he originated the flamboyant con‑man David Vickers on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, a character he would reprise intermittently for more than a decade, earning the 2008 Soap Opera Digest accolade for “Most Entertaining Male Character.” Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, Watkins expanded into film with a notable appearance as the near‑sighted tomb raider Burns in The Mummy and a leading role in the indie romantic comedy I Think I Do. He later became a familiar face on primetime television, most prominently as the gay lawyer Bob Hunter on Desperate Housewives from 2007 to the series finale in 2012, a role that highlighted his comedic timing and on‑screen chemistry with ensemble casts. In addition to recurring parts on Parks and Recreation, Major Crimes, and Black Monday, Watkins earned critical praise for his Broadway work, originating the role of Hank in the 2018 revival of The Boys in the Band and reprising it for the 2020 Netflix film adaptation, a project celebrated for its all‑openly‑gay cast. Off‑stage, Watkins publicly came out in 2013, welcomed twin sons via surrogacy in 2012, and has been in a committed relationship with actor Andrew Rannells since 2019, a partnership that began during their Broadway collaboration.
