Tobias Moretti, born Tobias Bloéb on 11 July 1959 in the Alpine village of Gries am Brenner, Tyrol, Austria, is a celebrated Austrian actor whose career spans stage, television and film, earning him a reputation for both intensity and versatility. He is the eldest of four brothers, among them fellow actor Gregor Bloéb, and his family background combines Tyrolean roots with Italian heritage through his mother, which inspired his professional surname. After completing studies in composition at the Vienna University of Music and Applied Arts, Moretti pursued dramatic training at Munich’s renowned Otto‑Falckenberg‑Schule, graduating to become a permanent member of the Bayerisches Staatsschauspiel ensemble and a regular performer at the Munich Kammerspiele from 1985 to 1995, where he earned critical praise for roles ranging from Brecht’s Man is Man to Shakespeare’s Troilus and Cressida.
