Sylvain Chomet

Sylvain Chomet, born on 10th November 1963 in Maisons-Laffitte, Seine-et-Oise, near Paris, embarked on his career in art at high school, graduating in 1982. He shifted to London in 1988 to work as an animator at the Richard Purdum studio, where he set up a freelance practice in September of the same year. Beyond his animation career, Chomet created numerous print comics, with his first, 'Secrets of the Dragonfly', debuting in 1986. In 1991, he started work on his first animated film, 'The Old Lady and the Pigeons', which won multiple awards and drew considerable recognition. His first feature-length animated film, 'The Triplets of Belleville', gained Oscar nominations and introduced Chomet to a broader audience. In 2004, he founded Django Films, based in Edinburgh, though it was later dismantled due to production difficulties. Chomet directed his first work in live action for the film 'Paris, je t'aime' in 2006. Following numerous postponements, Chomet directed 'The Illusionist', which premiered at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival. The film cost an estimated $17 million to make, and was funded by Pathé Pictures. Other notable works include his live action romantic musical-comedy 'Attila Marcel', a couch gag aired for 'The Simpsons' episode 'Diggs', the animated music video 'Carmen' for Belgian musician Stromae, and the short film 'Merci Monsieur Imada.' In June 2021, Chomet was announced to direct the biopic 'The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol.'
