What's After the Movie
Stephanie ’Sugar’ Lyn Beard is a Canadian actress and radio personality best known for her energetic presence on youth‑oriented television and radio. Born on August 27, 1981 in the Scarborough district of Toronto, she grew up as the daughter of Bonnita and Winston Beard and began working as a sales clerk while developing a distinctive high‑pitched voice that would become her trademark. At the age of 19 she debuted the character Suga BayBee on Toronto’s KISS 92.5 during the Mad Dog and Billie morning show, a role that highlighted her comedic timing and vocal range. In 2000 she provided the voice of Sailor Mini Moon for the Cloverway English adaptation of Sailor Moon, expanding her résumé into animation dubbing. From June 2001 until January 26 2007 she co‑hosted and produced The Zone on YTV, a series of short interstitials that connected children’s programming blocks, and she later shared hosting duties with Carlos Bustamante. During this period she also created special segments such as Sugar & Avril: A Zone Special and appeared on the Corus Entertainment website’s Plugged In series. Her written work included a column for the youth newspaper Brand New Planet, which was distributed with the Toronto Star and earned her a spot on the paper’s long‑list for Children’s Entertainment in 2006. Transitioning to screen acting, Beard played Susan in the 2011 film 50/50, Fiona in two episodes of Weeds (season 6), Krissy in For a Good Time, Call… (2012), and Jeanie in the 2016 comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates. Known for her naturally high voice and petite stature of 4 ft 11 in, she continues to be a recognizable figure in Canadian pop culture, balancing voice work, on‑screen roles, and occasional radio appearances.
