Primarily active from the 1940s to 80s, Donen co-directed the acclaimed films On the Town (1949) and Singin' in the Rain (1952) with Gene Kelly, and later directed notable films including Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954) and Funny Face (1957). He received the Honorary Academy Award in 1998, and the Career Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2004.
