Mary Elizabeth "Sissy" Spacek (/ˈspeɪsɛk/; born December 25, 1949) is an eminent American actress and singer, known for her rich array of roles and commendable performances. She has indulged in a varied range of roles, receiving great recognition including an Academy Award, three Golden Globe Awards, a Screen Actors Guild Award. Also, she has been nominated for four BAFTA Awards, three Primetime Emmy Awards, and a Grammy Award. She was saluted with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011.
Spacek initially desired for a singing career, recording a 1968 single, "John You Went Too Far This Time". However, after a faltered music career, she directed her focus to acting, studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. Over the years, Spacek has delivered power-packed performances in numerous films including Carrie (1976), Missing (1982), The River (1984), Crimes of the Heart (1986), and In the Bedroom (2001); receiving Oscar nominations for several. Her notable television roles have fetched her Primetime Emmy nominations for The Good Old Boys (1995), Last Call (2002), and Big Love (2011). Apart from acting, Spacek ventured into music, recording vocals for the Coal Miner's Daughter soundtrack album, earning her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.
