Rabindra Singh Baniya

Rabindra Singh Baniya (born 14 February 1982 in Dhading, Nepal) is a celebrated * Nepali actor, producer, theatre director* and social entrepreneur who has become a household name through both stage and screen. After completing his P.C.L. at Shaheed Smriti Campus in Chitwan and earning a B.A. in Sociology from Tri‑Chandra College, Kathmandu, he immersed himself in the vibrant Nepali theatre scene, spending over seventeen years honing his craft under the mentorship of Sunil Pokharel and performing in more than twenty‑five productions across the country. Notable stage works such as Ghanchakkar at the 10th Bharat Rangmahotsav, Dream of Maya Devi, and socially driven street dramas like For Green New Nepal showcased his versatility and commitment to using art as a catalyst for social change. Baniya transitioned to film with the critically acclaimed Talakjung Vs Tulke (2014), serving as executive producer and portraying Binaya Babu Saheb, a role that marked his entry into mainstream cinema. His breakthrough arrived in 2016 when his charismatic performance as Hanuman Ji in Pashvati Prasad earned widespread recognition and cemented his status as a leading comic talent. The same year he starred as Joyes in the box‑office hit Jatra and appeared as Suraj in White Sun (Seto Surya), the latter winning the Best Asian Feature Film award at the Singapore International Film Festival. Beyond acting, Baniya has produced several successful projects including Jatrai Jatra (2019) and Mahajatra (2024), and he co‑founded the production house Shatkon Arts, which has been instrumental in promoting quality Nepali cinema. His entrepreneurial spirit extends to agriculture, where he runs the organic Green Gold Farm House, and to humanitarian work as President of the Miteree Foundation Nepal since 2010, supporting community development and environmental awareness. Married to Sita Shrestha, he is a father of two, Samyak and Sambodhi, and continues to influence Nepali culture through film, theatre, radio drama production for BBC Media Action, and active social advocacy.
