What's After the Movie
Nolan Gerard Funk (born July 28, 1986) is a Canadian‑German actor, singer, and model whose career has spanned more than two decades. Raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Funk displayed athletic talent early, competing nationally in gymnastics until age thirteen and also representing Canada as a diver, experiences that later contributed to his physicality on screen. His first professional acting credit arrived in 2001 when he portrayed Ryan in the Seven Days episode “The Brink,” and he quickly followed with roles in short films such as Moon in the Afternoon and a guest spot on Taken. By 2003 he had landed a small part in the Marvel blockbuster X2, and over the next few years he accumulated guest appearances on series including Renegadepress.com, Smallville, and Hollow Man 2, showcasing a versatile range that blended drama, comedy, and action. Throughout this period he also appeared in music videos, notably as the love interest in Miranda Cosgrove’s “Stay My Baby,” and began developing a reputation for stage presence that would soon culminate in a Broadway breakthrough.
Funk’s theatrical pinnacle came with the title role of Conrad Birdie in the 2009 revival of Bye Bye Birdie, where critics praised his performance as “Excellent” and highlighted his singing and dancing prowess. This stage success opened doors to higher‑profile television work, including a memorable stint as Hunter Clarington on Glee and a season‑long arc as Collin Jennings on Awkward. He later joined the ensemble of the Starz series Counterpart as Angel Eyes, delivering dialogue in German and portraying a complex assassin. Recent highlights feature his regular role as FBI agent Van White on the HBO Max hit The Flight Attendant, earning a Screen Actors Guild nomination in 2021, and starring parts in Netflix’s Partner Track and the unreleased AI horror Raptus. Across film, television, and stage, Funk continues to blend musical talent with gritty dramatic flair, establishing himself as a dynamic and enduring presence in contemporary entertainment.
