His performance as Tom Wambsgans in HBO's drama series Succession (2018–2023) catalyzed his fame, earning him two Primetime Emmy Awards, two BAFTA Awards, and a Golden Globe Award. His television career debut dates back to 1998 when he donned the role of Hareton Earnshaw in Wuthering Heights. His other notable roles include Tom Quinn in the BBC One spy series Spooks (2002–2004, 2011), and Inspector Edmund Reid in Ripper Street (2012–2016). He received the British Academy Television Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Criminal Justice (2009).
