Mashar Hamsa

Mashar Hamsa is an Indian costume designer born on 13 June 1990 in the coastal town of Tanur, Kerala, India. Growing up amidst the vibrant textile traditions of Kerala, he developed an early fascination with fabrics, colors, and the storytelling power of clothing, which later guided his professional journey. After completing his formal education, Mashar entered the advertising world, designing costumes for a variety of television commercials where he honed his skill in translating narrative briefs into visual attire. His breakthrough into cinema arrived in 2013 with the critically acclaimed road‑trip drama Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, where his nuanced designs captured the regional diversity of characters and earned him recognition among filmmakers. The success of this debut opened doors to a steady stream of projects, and by 2016 he garnered widespread attention for his work on Kammattippadam, a film noted for its gritty realism and authentic wardrobe choices. Since then, Mashar has contributed his artistic vision to over thirty Malayalam films, including Parava, Sudani From Nigeria, Varathan, Jallikkettu, Trance, Churuli, Thallumala and Romacham, each project showcasing his ability to blend cultural specificity with contemporary aesthetics. His costume design for Trance earned him the Kerala Film Critics Association Award for Best Costume Designer in 2020, cementing his reputation as a leading creative force in the industry. Beyond his professional accolades, Mashar’s collaboration style is characterized by close work with directors and actors, ensuring that every stitch supports character development and narrative tone.
