What's After the Movie
Manoj Sood (born May 5, 1962) is a Canadian film and television actor whose career spans over three decades. He entered the world in Mombasa, Kenya, the son of Indian Hindu parents Dr. B.K. Sood and Narindar Sood, and migrated with his family to Canada in 1964, settling first in Calgary before completing his secondary education at St. Michael’s University School in Victoria, British Columbia, where he studied film. Sood’s early break came with a role in the made‑for‑television movie Survival on the Mountain, produced by Billy Crystal and Francis Ford Coppola, launching a prolific period of work on both the small and big screens. Over the years he has become a familiar face in Canadian and American productions, notable for his nuanced performances and steady presence in ensemble casts. His breakthrough television role was as Baber Siddiqui in the beloved CBC/Amazon Prime sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie, a character that anchored the show for its six‑season run and earned him a dedicated fan base. Alongside this, he appeared in acclaimed series such as Da Vinci’s Inquest, The Dead Zone, Romeo!, and Dead Like Me, and contributed to feature films including Romeo Must Die, Rat Race, Meltdown, and the iconic superhero tableau Watchmen.
In the 2010s Sood expanded his repertoire with parts in Brad Bird’s sci‑fi adventure Tomorrowland, the fantasy series Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, the time‑travel drama Continuum, and the supernatural hit Supernatural. More recent work features appearances in the post‑apocalyptic series Snowpiercer, the Netflix romantic comedy Wedding Season, and Bob Odenkirk’s critically praised series Lucky Hank. Outside of acting, Sood is an avid fly fisherman and a passionate amateur astronomer, pursuits that reflect his love for patience and the night sky. He is also an outspoken advocate against child sexual exploitation, lending his voice to the organization Beyond Borders. Family ties run deep: he is the brother of actress Veena Sood, cousin of musician Ashwin Sood, and father to filmmaker Kama L. Sood.
