Born on 24 June 1972 in Denmark, he grew up during a period of rapid media transformation, which later informed his irreverent approach to political satire and global intrigue. His career launched in the early 2000s, when he co‑created the provocative documentary series Danes for Bush (2004), a sharp critique of American foreign policy that set the tone for his subsequent projects. Brügger’s first feature‑length film, The Red Chapel (2009), took him to the secretive kingdom of North Korea, where a troupe of Danish comedians performed a theatrical piece while covertly documenting the regime’s absurdities, a daring blend of humor and subversive reporting.
