Inspired by a role she played in a childhood Christmas pageant, she pursued acting and attended the Juilliard School's Drama Division where she graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Collins kicked off her career with a television debut in 1999 on 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'. Her on-stage career included roles as Ophelia in Hamlet, and as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. Her small roles in movies like 'Down with Love', '50 First Dates', and '13 Going on 30' paved the way for her starring role as Portia in 'The Merchant of Venice', which was critically acclaimed. In 2008, she was cast in HBO’s True Blood and in 2009, she acted as Kayla Silverfox in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Her first lead role came in 2012 when she was cast as Dejah Thoris in the movie John Carter. Off-screen, Collins poses for magazines like Allure and is known for exploring several religious faiths.
