Katsuo Nakamura, born Katsuo Ogawa on April 23, 1938, in Tokyo City, Japan, is a venerable Japanese actor whose career spans more than six decades. Raised in a family steeped in traditional performance art, he began his artistic journey as a Kabuki actor, honing a disciplined stage presence that would later inform his screen work. His film debut arrived in 1955 with Furisode Kenpo, marking the start of an extensive filmography that includes landmark titles such as Kwaidan (1965), Samurai Banners (1969), and the iconic Zatoichi in Desperation (1972). Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Nakamura demonstrated remarkable versatility, appearing in historical epics like Shinsengumi (1969) and supernatural dramas such as Kagero-za (1981) and Buriki no kunsho (1981), performances that earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the 5th Japan Academy Prize and the 6th Hochi Film Award.
