Kathryn Beaumont

Kathryn Beaumont (born 27 June 1937) is a British actress and former elementary school teacher best remembered for her iconic voice work that helped define Disney's golden age of animation. Born in London to professional dancer Evelyn and singer Kenneth Beaumont, she survived the tumult of World War II, briefly relocating to Bangor, Wales before returning to London after the war. Her early fascination with performance was nurtured by a school pantomime, where a teacher recognized her natural talent and encouraged her mother to pursue acting opportunities. By the age of seven she made her feature‑film debut in It Happened One Sunday (1944), which led to a short‑lived contract with MGM and small, often uncredited, roles in films such as On an Island with You (1948) and The Secret Garden (1949).

When Disney began searching for a young British actress to voice Alice in Alice in Wonderland (1951), Beaumont auditioned three times and secured the part, working under voice director Winston Hibler while her mother and tutor remained on set. She soon followed this success with the role of Wendy Darling in Peter Pan (1953), also serving as the live‑action reference model—a task that required her to be suspended in the air despite a fear of heights. After earning a Disney Legend award in 1998, she stepped back from acting in 2005, only to return for brief voice cameo roles in the Kingdom Hearts video‑game series (2010) and the animated series Alice's Wonderland Bakery (2023). Outside of Hollywood, Beaumont earned a degree in education from the University of Southern California and devoted 36 years to teaching elementary school students in Los Angeles. She married producer Allan Levine in 1985 and, while no children are publicly documented, her lasting legacy endures through the beloved characters she helped bring to life.
