Julio Torres

Julio Torres, born February 11, 1987, is a Salvadoran-American writer, comedian, and actor. He is renowned for his work as a writer for the Emmy-winning 'Saturday Night Live' and his executive producer role for the HBO series 'Los Espookys'. Before achieving mainstream fame, Torres penned for 'The Chris Gethard Show' on truTV. In addition to his writing talents, Torres showcased his acting prowess in the surrealist comedy film 'Problemista', which he also wrote and directed. Torres was born in San Salvador, El Salvador to a civil engineer father and a mother who was an architect and fashion designer. A central figure in his life was his grandmother, who was prophesied by a fortune teller that one of her descendants would find success in New York City, an omen Torres's mother believed pointed to him. Torres's passion for storytelling shaped his early life, as evident in his practice of creating elaborate stories for his toy figures. Pursuing a career in comedy, Torres convinced his family to finance his studies in New York, and relocated to Manhattan in 2009 after securing a scholarship at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School. Excelling in literature and playwriting, Torres graduated in 2011 and shortly afterwards began honing his writing skills at the Chris Gethard Show and later at SNL where he was a writer from 2016 to 2019. Known for his otherworldly and surrealist writing style, Torres has been praised by critics and has earned four Emmy nominations for his work with the SNL team.
