Julia Davis

Julia Davis (born 25 August 1966) is an English actress, comedian, director and writer renowned for her dark, boundary‑pushing comedy. Raised in Guildford, Surrey before moving to Bath at age fourteen, she studied English and drama at the College of Ripon and York St John and later worked a series of dead‑end jobs while honing her comedic voice in local theatre groups. Her first breakthrough came with the BBC Radio 4 sketch series Five Squeezy Pieces in 1998, which led to television appearances on Big Train and collaborations with Steve Coogan, Chris Morris and Rob Brydon. Davis co‑created the unsettling sitcom Human Remains (2000) and wrote‑starring the cult classic Nighty Night (2004‑2005), cementing her reputation for portraying sociopathic anti‑heroes such as the blonde beauty therapist Jill Tyrell. She later headlined the award‑winning series Hunderby (2012‑2015), for which she won a BAFTA TV Craft Award for Writing – Comedy, and made her directorial debut with Camping (2016).
