Dame Frances Margaret Anderson, professionally known as Judith Anderson, was an eminent Australian stage, film, and television actress. Born in 1897 in Adelaide, South Australia, she launched her acting career in 1915 by playing Stephanie at the Theatre Royal, Sydney, in 'A Royal Divorce'. Despite early struggles in the United States, her staging efforts eventually bore fruit and she moved on to perform in plays like Cobra, The Dove, and many others. Her career was filled with distinguished performances like her role in Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca (1940) for which she secured a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 13th Academy Awards. In 1955, she toured Australia with the play Medea and then France in 1961, performing Macbeth, Medea, and Tower. In 1984, she appeared in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock as Vulcan High Priestess T'Lar. Her career spanned over seven decades until her death in 1992.
