What's After the Movie
Jonathan Daly (born January 14, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American television actor and writer whose career has spanned more than six decades. He first gained public attention while serving in the United States Army, where he met fellow soldier Ken Delo; the two formed the comedy duo Delo and Daly, a partnership that would become a cultural bridge between the United States and Australia in the early 1960s. Their energetic sketches and musical numbers were first performed at military shows, then televised on Australian programs such as In Melbourne Tonight and eventually led to their own variety series, The Delo and Daly Show (1963‑64), where they introduced American humor to Australian audiences and even hosted the interview program Daly at Night in Melbourne. Back in the United States, Daly transitioned to mainstream TV with guest spots on popular sitcoms like Bewitched, The Flying Nun and The Ghost & Mrs. Muir. His first regular role arrived on the classic series Petticoat Junction, where he portrayed the affable game warden Orrin Pike, a romantic interest for Bobbie Jo Bradley. He later starred as Peter Howard, the adult son of legendary actor Jimmy Stewart, in The Jimmy Stewart Show, and played Lieutenant Whipple, the strict yet comedic superior of Don Rickles' character in the 1970s sitcom C.P.O. Sharkey. Daly’s film work includes starring roles in the beach‑party picture Out of Sight (1966) and the World War II drama The Young Warriors (1967), as well as supporting parts in several Walt Disney live‑action productions such as Superdad, The Strongest Man in the World, The Shaggy D.A. and Amy. Beyond acting, Daly contributed as a writer to the 1975 Andy Griffith series Adams of Eagle Lake, demonstrating his versatility behind the camera. In later years he made a guest appearance on Law & Order: Trial by Jury, proving his continued relevance in contemporary television. Although he keeps his personal life relatively private, he is the father of two children, Rad and Jules Daly. His enduring presence in both American and Australian entertainment underscores a unique cross‑continental legacy that remains celebrated by fans of classic television comedy.
