John Lloyd Cruz

John Lloyd Cruz (born John Lloyd Espidol Cruz on June 24, 1983) is a Filipino actor, model, and television host who rose from modest beginnings in Pasay, Metro Manila. He entered the entertainment industry at age 15 after being discovered by a talent scout while watching a movie in a mall, motivated by the need to support his family following his father's failing marble business. Cruz’s early television work included roles in GMA Public Affairs’ Compañero y Compañera and the crime series Calvento Files, and he soon joined ABS‑CBN’s Star Magic batch 5, becoming a member of the teen trio Koolits. His breakthrough came with the teen drama Tabing Ilog (1999‑2003) and the soap opera Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (2002), where his on‑screen partnership with Bea Alonzo began, leading to numerous box‑office hits. Throughout his career Cruz has amassed over 80 awards, including two FAMAS Awards and two Gawad Urian Awards, and he was the first Filipino and Southeast Asian actor to receive the Star Asia Award at the New York Asian Film Festival. He earned the title “King of Contemporary Cinema” after starring in record‑breaking films such as One More Chance (2007), A Very Special Love (2008), You Changed My Life (2009), and the 2015 blockbuster A Second Chance, which grossed more than ₱556 million. In addition to his commercial success, he was honored with the Boccalino d’Oro for Best Actor at the 76th Locarno Film Festival for his role in Essential Truths of The Lake (2023). After a brief hiatus in 2017, Cruz returned to television with GMA Network, starring in Happy Together (2021‑2023) and continuing to appear in commercials. He is also a father to his son Elias Modesto with former co‑star Ellen Adarna, and in 2023 confirmed a relationship with visual artist Isabel Santos. Cruz’s versatility, charismatic presence, and consistent box‑office draw have cemented his status as one of the most influential figures in modern Philippine cinema.
